Why this job – CONTROLLER:
Controller role within a construction organization, responsible for owning the accounting function and leading the accounting team. The role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who understands construction accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting, and who enjoys building strong processes, controls, and teams to support profitable growth.
What You'll Actually Do:
- Own and oversee all accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Manage job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, margin analysis, and cash flow forecasting
- Prepare and present financial statements, budget vs. actual analysis, and performance insights to leadership
- Partner with project managers on job cost performance, change orders, and forward-looking forecasts
- Review contracts and billing terms to ensure accurate financial treatment and risk mitigation
- Develop and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP-compliant construction practices
- Identify process gaps and drive workflow improvements, automation, and efficiency
- Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff, providing coaching and performance management
- Coordinate with external partners, including CPA firms, auditors, tax advisors, and bonding partners
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need:
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience – CPA preferred
- 2+ years in an Assistant Controller or Controller role
- Construction accounting experience required
- Proven people-management experience, including team leadership and development
- Familiarity with vendor portals and subcontractor compliance processes
Where and How Much:
- Target Compensation $155K - $165K + generous bonus potential
